First off, this is a drop dead gorgeous pair of boots that fits (shoe wise) perfectly. The tassel on the zip adds a bit of flair, and the suede is a very dark black. So much of the suede you find these days seems to be distressed, and this is a deep, rich, all over black.

HOWEVER.

The description says that the shaft measures approx 14 1/2 inches in circumference, and they do. But if you have small calves like me (about a 13", so I *never* expect boots to be "quite right"), these will look like they're swimming on you around the knee, because they don't zip all the way up. It's like something out of a pirate movie. You could stash your evening bag in there, there's so much room.

I honestly didn't think the fact that they didn't zip all the way up would have been such a big deal, but it seriously is since that's what helps to "pull in" the extra fabric on us bird-legged ladies. They look ridiculous with the outfit that I wanted to wear them with. :(

But refusing to give up, I went ahead and tried them on with various pairs of jeans, and since they don't look horribly huge once the pants are tucked in, I'm going to keep them.

Because they really are great boots.
