First, you may want to check out the mesh on the sides as, if you are looking for a 'water proof' shoe for Chicago or Boston rain, then this isn't your best choice. Yes, the mesh will let water through as well as air. That being said, these are one of the best pairs of shoes I've ever owned. They fit quite well, accomodate my orthodics, and the mesh gives the toes of my wide feet some leeway. Since I removed the inner lining, I used an after-market cushion under my orthodics as I was walking around Europe for 6-10 hours a day. They are very durable as well.
